1946 – The beginning of Transportes Rama
We were founded in 1946, driven by the vision of two brothers – Manuel and Carlos Rama – in an aging and outdated Portugal where there was plenty of room for growth, but also a great deal of work to be done.

We were Shell’s first carrier in Portugal. We ventured into the unknown and expanded the business once again.
Triunfo, Agloma, and Rações Izidoro are the three key clients with whom we established ourselves in the Portuguese market. The 1960s also marked a period when the company – born from the dream of two brothers – grew significantly, reaching a workforce of 150 employees and a fleet of 60 transport units.

We were the seventh Portuguese company to obtain authorization for international operations. We ventured into the unknown and expanded the business once again.

Our role in international freight transport is firmly established through the international transport of pulp. In the 1980s, a new management model took the first steps toward creating a certification and quality system – one that would serve as the foundation for the demanding transport operations that underpin our work today.

Driven by customer satisfaction and the constant challenge to push further and obtain new certifications, we created a quality system based on the requirements for demanding transport operations; this system was implemented in 2021 for the following categories: Dangerous Goods (ADR), Bulk Cargo, Pharmaceuticals (GDP), and High-Value Goods (TAPA).

The late 1990s brought the third generation of management, and our expansion continued – driven at the time by the international bulk transport of pine chips. To this end, we developed our own semi-trailer, designed to safely handle the long-distance transport and proper delivery of this type of cargo.

Our experience enables us to understand market needs and develop a value-driven strategy for our clients. Temperature-controlled pharmaceutical transport emerged from the need for the rapid and safe transport of pharmaceutical products in a pre-pandemic context.

With 1,000 meters of storage space and new working conditions for our staff across various administrative and Traffic departments, we designed a space focused on efficiency and service improvement, as well as addressing a key client need: dedicated space for merchandise storage.
We have established specific procedures and standards for GDP and TAPA certification, enabling us to obtain these certifications and take a step forward in the transport of demanding cargo.
